Halifax Father's Day Walk/ Run 2011

Wayne Harrington, Moncton shares his Fathers Day 2011 Story

After a very pleasant holiday in Iceland, we arrived back in Halifax last night around 9 (midnight in Reykjavik!) This morning, we were at the Dal Campus in Halifax before 9 for our walk. There was a great turnout and I'm sure the organizers were pleased. Barb, daughter Meredith, and I were joined by friends Keith and Sue Cameron for the 5 km walk. It was an enjoyable walk through a beautiful section of Halifax. Conditions were great until we neared the end when we experienced thunder, lightning, and torrential rains. We were okay, and only slightly soaked. As many of you know, it was two years ago yesterday since I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. So far I am one of the fortunate ones who have not required treatment. My doctor and I are keeping a close watch on my situation with blood tests and occasional biopsies. I feel very blessed.

Thank you so much to those who have supported me in this venture. All proceeds go to prostate cancer research and we remain hopeful that this will help in the ongoing struggle with this disease. The process this year was new to me, and I was hopeful that I would be able to raise $150 for the cause. As of today, my total was $1410, and this was due to so many of you who contributed. I am very grateful.

I'm including a few photos taken today. You'll see Meredith, the Camerons, the walkers/runners about ready to start, me in the pouring rain, and me with grandson Aidan when I opened my father's day card. We arrived back in Moncton around 6, only had to stop once for another heavy downpour of rain mixed with hail. All is well!
