Parking Lot Prostate Exam Project #TalkProstate

CFL legend and four-time Grey Cup winner, Damon Allen chats with guys as they wait to collect their parking passes.

Have you ever retrieved a parking pass from a machine and thought "Gee, this is as easy as getting my prostate checked?" No? Well, now you might, thanks to this cheeky initiative intended to raise awareness that prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men, and that, when detected early survival can be over 90%.

The time-limited social awareness campaign is running this September, during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. It's all intended to trigger a discussion about prostate cancer and to encourage men to talk to their doctor about their personal risk and an early detection strategy that's right for them, including when to get a baseline PSA test.

Regular testing increases the likelihood of cancer being detected at an early stage when there are more treatment options and the chance of cure is highest.

What is the PSA Test?

The PSA test is a simple blood test, taken from your arm, that measures the amount of prostate specific antigen (PSA) in your blood. While there are controversies with the PSA test, high numbers serve as a powerful red flag for further investigation. Learn more.

How can PSA help?

Early detection of prostate cancer saves lives. When detected early, the survival rate for prostate cancer can be more than 90%. Without testing for prostate cancer, the excellent survival rate afforded by early detection is lost and men are diagnosed at a much later stage, when death from the disease becomes more likely. What is the Digital Rectal Exam?

In a digital rectal exam (DRE), your doctor will feel the size and shape of the prostate by inserting a gloved and lubricated finger into the rectum. The area where most prostate cancers are found can be felt during this test. Learn more.
