PSA Fitness (Power, Strength & Agility)

1/16/2012
HALIFAX, N.S., January 16, 2012/CNW/ Prostate Cancer Canada Atlantic is proud to announce the launch of PSA Fitness (Power, Strength & Agility), a free nine week exercise program for men who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer.  PSA Fitness, resistance training and yoga, is an important patient-centered therapy for prostate cancer survivors in Halifax.

“It’s our time to take control of our own health,” says Peter Mallette, Director, Prostate Cancer Canada Atlantic Region. “PSA Fitness connects prostate cancer survivors in Halifax and seeks to enhance their overall quality of life throughout treatment and recovery.”

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer to afflict Canadian men. During his lifetime, one in seven men will be diagnosed with the disease. Prostate cancer is over 90 per cent curable if detected and treated in its earliest stages.

PSA Fitness offers nine weeks of exercise focused on resistance training and yoga; these exercises can benefit prostate cancer survivors by increasing muscular fitness and functional performance, reducing fatigue and blood pressure, and increasing overall quality of life.

In addition to promoting personal health, PSA Fitness provides a place for men facing prostate cancer to connect and receive support. The program will accommodate men who have received a prostate cancer diagnosis and are currently awaiting treatment, on treatment, or have recently completed treatment.

PSA Fitness in Halifax is a pilot project for Prostate Cancer Canada. This pilot is part of a new Support Services Program which will expand throughout 2012.

Where: Prostate Cancer Canada Atlantic
5121 Sackville St. Suite 101, Halifax, NS
