Kicking Prostate Cancer Where the Sun Doesn't Shine

Len Rhodes is the CEO & President of the Edmonton Eskimos CFL Football Team & Plaid For Dad Ambassador

In November 2016, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. It was the biggest shock and surprise of my life. I did not feel any symptoms and had no family history when it comes to cancer.

Fortunately, a routine medical led to my diagnosis. I say fortunately, because my annual medical allowed me to catch it at stage 1. The earlier the better. Early diagnosis leads to more treatment options.

This past March I had brachytherapy surgery at the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton. I am not out of the woods, but I have recently seen my PSA level fall from 4.8 to 1.1. The radiation is working.

Don't be a fool. Get your annual medicals and insist that you have a PSA blood test. Cancer is no fun, but if you're going to have it, you need to know and you need to get it treated.

1 out of 7 Canadian men will have prostate cancer. The biggest tragedy is sitting back and not doing anything. Please join me in raising money for Prostate Cancer Canada. I have shared my personal story for one reason. To raise awareness for the need to get your annual medicals. While talking about my personal medical issues is the last thing I want to do, I decided that I have to do it in order to help other men.

7 months after my surgery, my prognosis is promising thanks to early diagnosis and a fabulous public health care system. Thanks so much for your donation.
