PSA Fitness (Power, Strength & Agility)
HALIFAX, N.S., January 16, 2012/CNW/ Prostate Cancer Canada Atlantic is proud to announce the launch of PSA Fitness (Power, Strength & Agility), a free nine week exercise program for men who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer. PSA Fitness, resistance training and yoga, is an important patient-centered therapy for prostate cancer survivors in Halifax.

TELUS donation to support Prostate Cancer Canada
Toronto, ON- January 13, 2012- On January 10th, Prostate Cancer Canada received a generous donation of $100,000 from TELUS at the launch of the TIEd Together exhibition. TELUS’ donation was made possible through the Canadian Football League Grey Cup cause marketing campaign. The donation will support Prostate Cancer Canada’s ongoing efforts to eliminate the disease through research, education, support and awareness.

Pilot Grant Program

We fund innovative, high-potential pilot studies that could significantly advance the field. Since the Foundation’s inception this program has funded many novel ideas for the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer and has provided support for operating expenses.

The pilot grant program is specifically designed to complement, rather than compete with, funding from traditional sources such as the CCSRI (formerly National Cancer Institute of Canada) and CIHR. The Foundation has developed a fully webified fast-track application process designed to minimize paperwork and accelerate funding to prostate cancer researchers. The funds are released within 90 days of the close of competition.

Through the pilot grant program, the Foundation grants over $1 million each year to physicians, researchers and scientists from all across Canada, many of whom are first-time grantees. Often, because the Foundation tends to fund early-stage projects, the awards are the only source of funding for these projects.

2012 Request for Applications: Pilot Grant Program

1. Program Objective

This Request for Applications (RFA) is intended to support biological and clinical research projects that are Prostate Cancer specific/exclusive in nature.

2. Mechanisms of Support

NEW: This year the value of the Pilot Grant has been increased to a maximum value of $150,000 over 2.5 years

3. Program Eligibility

In order to apply for this award, applicants must:

Hold a faculty position with a Canadian university, teaching hospital or cancer care institution

NEW: This year PCC will be reviewing Established Investigators (those with more than 8 years of research experience within a faculty position) separately from New Investigators (those with up to 8 years of experience within a faculty position)

4. Applications

To apply, applicants must fill out an online application form which will be found on the Prostate Cancer Canada website - application - on January 3, 2012.

Competition Opens               January 3, 2012
Applications Deadline            March 30, 2012 at 5p.m. EST
Notice of Decision                 June 29, 2012
