On Saturday, March 28
th PCCN Calgary hosted a one-day cancer survivorship symposium for regional support groups and the extended community, supported in part by Prostate Cancer Canada. Well known for its community involvement, PCCN Calgary began the day with yoga exercises suited to the cancer population. After yoga, 200 participants heard presentations about new research taking place in Alberta that will aid prostate cancer patients in particular throughout Canada. Additional research was presented on physical exercise, nutrition and mental health.
Among the presenters were Dr. John Lewis PhD from the University of Alberta and Dr. Nicole Culos-Reed PhD from the University of Calgary, who shared their work and research funded by Prostate Cancer Canada and the Movember Foundation. Dr. John Oliffe PhD from University of British Columbia, a member of Prostate Cancer Canada’s Research Advisory Council also discussed his important work on the effectiveness of support groups.
A pre-event evening was hosted by PCCN Edmonton for the regional support groups and symposium speakers. Thanks to the PCCN Edmonton executive for putting on a great evening with excellent discussion and refreshments!
Special thanks to Stewart Campbell, Executive Director PCCN Calgary, Steve Belway, President and the other executive members and volunteers from PCCN Calgary for your work and expertise in organizing a very successful event!
