Raise awareness about prostate cancer

Media, online or off, can’t by itself raise awareness about prostate cancer, its risk factors and the need for research funding. Crucial to that effort are the great community events that support our cause. There’s no substitute for real people interacting and supporting one another, the reach and the cool factor of Facebook and Twitter notwithstanding.
On that note, coming up soon is Laughter and Hope, billed as both a launch event for the non-profit documentary film about prostate and ovarian cancer “Below the Belt” and a night of comedy and entertainment. This intimate evening for 200 guests raises both awareness and money.
The August 7th (through 15th) Rogers Cup, marks the debut of Prostate Cancer Canada’s tie-in with Tennis Canada to promote awareness. Look for our “1 in 6” tennis balls poster. More information about the Rogers Cup is served at www.rogerscup.com.
Continuing with the balls motif, also on August 7th is the Twin B’s Slo-Pitch Leagues 29th annual BOSSS Tournament at the Brampton Sesquicentennial Sports Fields. Proceeds from this sanctioned tournament are being donated to Prostate Cancer Canada. Check out www.twinbs.ca.
Cruisin’ For A Cure Canada, a one-day car show dedicated to raising prostate cancer awareness, is slated for September 12th in Brampton. The show is open to all kinds of great rides – hot rods, customs, muscle and classic cars, motorcycles, even snowmobiles and antique fire trucks. Cruise on over towww.cruisinforacurecanada.com.
On September 21st, it’s the 10th Annual Golf Town Charity Classicat Eagles Nest, north of Toronto in Maple, Onatario. This event has raised an extraordinary $785,000 for Prostate Cancer so far. The 2010 edition will undoubtedly add substantially to that total allowing more money to go towards research & awareness initiatives. For more information, contact Kerry Smiley at ksmiley@golftown.com.
Look for more information soon about events like The Randy Remington Golf Classic coming up later this summer, the October 3rd Scotiabank Stick-it to Prostate Cancer, in Calgary (bonnie.ball@prostatecancer.ca) or (charlene.criscione@prostatecancer.ca), and the 49th Annual Moose & Goose Club Black Tie Dinner on November 25that the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto (charlene.criscione@prostatecancer.ca).
