In Memory of Terry Reid

Terence Cleary West Reid passed away suddenly on Monday, July 13, 2015, in Toronto, from complications of recently diagnosed prostate cancer – his loving family by his side. He was 73.

Terry was born on October 28,1941, in Johannesburg, South Africa. He attended St. Andrew's Prep School in Grahamstown, SA before completing his law degree at the University of Witwatersrand.

In 1964, Terry moved to Canada to pursue his MBA at the University of Toronto. After completing his studies, he accepted a position at Wood Gundy, in Montreal, which began his successful journey in the investment business - a long career that brought him tremendous personal satisfaction. In 1979, he married Julie (Davies) of Natick, Massachusetts in a ceremony in Johannesburg and they settled in Montreal to begin their life together. In 1990, the family relocated to Toronto.

Outside of his professional endeavours, Terry took great pleasure in walking his many dogs, tickling the ivories on his grand piano, reading history books and satisfying his world curiosity through travel. He loved dinners with his family at home – his family was his greatest joy. We will never forget how much joy 'T' received from his most beloved pastime, golf – remembering fondly how he would regale his friends and loved ones with tales of glory from the fairways and greens.

Described by friends as a gentleman and a scholar, Terry's curiosity, cool sense of humour and sharp wit inspired and delighted everyone around him. He is remembered as an encouraging confidant, colleague and golf companion and devoted husband and father. His energetic and positive presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to have known him.

Terry is survived by his loving wife, Julie; children, Alison, Michael (Laura), Christopher and newborn grandson, Max Terence; siblings, Michael (Vivienne) of Port Alfred, SA and Alannah (John) of Cape Town, SA; many nieces and nephews; colleagues and friends from the Toronto Golf Club, Wyndemere Golf Club in Naples, Florida, Mount Bruno Golf and Country Club in Montreal, Quebec and the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews in Scotland.

A service and reception will be held on Tuesday, July 21st, at 11:00 a.m., at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery Visitation Centre in Toronto, followed by a private burial for immediate family. If you wish, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Prostate Cancer Canada, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Leacock Foundation.
