This presentation takes a closer look at a critical time within the prostate cancer disease journey between the localized and advanced disease state. Metastasis, when the cancer spreads to a different part of the body, is currently targeted by multiple treatment options available in the market. With the recent SPARTAN and PROSPER clinical trials, there are new drug developments that may target the non-metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer window to further delay metastases. Key tools and imaging options in detecting metastases are also discussed.

Prostate cancer which has spread outside of the prostate gland is treated with systemic therapy. However, these treatments are not curative. Understanding the biological reasons for why these treatments do not work or become ineffective is important to identify better ways to treat patients. This presentation will give an overview of current understanding of why prostate cancers develop resistance to current therapies.
February 13, 2018
This presentation is an overview of the most common and serious side effects that are possible for men who are treated for prostate cancer. It compares and contrasts the 4 main treatment options: surgery, low dose rate (LDR; permanent seed) brachytherapy, high dose rate (HDR: temporary seed) brachytherapy, and external beam radiotherapy (EBRT). This is a presentation that men and their families who are still undecided as to what treatment option they prefer may find useful as it compares the risk of developing a side effect of therapy (e.g. bladder leaking, rectal bleeding, etc) between the four options. This presentation is based on the best available data in the medical literature that a collaborative group of surgeons and oncologists agreed upon to help make sure patients are provided consistent, high quality information.

This will include consideration of possible complications of surgery and the need for sexual and bladder rehabilitation after surgery. Finally we will also discuss additional cancer therapies that may be offered after radical prostatectomy and how patients are followed to ensure they remain cancer free.

This presentation is focused on explaining how radiation therapy works and describes the two main methods of delivering prostate radiotherapy - brachytherapy and external beam radiotherapy. It reviews the main treatment options for low, intermediate and high risk prostate cancer, focusing on the radiotherapy options. This is a video that men and their families may find useful in explaining the different types of radiation and some of the reasons why one modality may be preferred compared to the other options.
