With the recent SPARTAN and PROSPER clinical trials, there are new drug developments that may target the non-metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer window to further delay metastases. Choosing What's Right for You Common Side Effects of Prostate Cancer Treatment

This presentation is an overview of the most common and serious side effects that are possible for men who are treated for prostate cancer. It compares and contrasts the 4 main treatment options: surgery, low dose rate (LDR; permanent seed) brachytherapy, high dose rate (HDR: temporary seed) brachytherapy, and external beam radiotherapy (EBRT). This is a presentation that men and their families who are still undecided as to what treatment option they prefer may find useful as it compares the risk of developing a side effect of therapy (e.g. bladder leaking, rectal bleeding, etc) between the four options. This presentation is based on the best available data in the medical literature that a collaborative group of surgeons and oncologists agreed upon to help make sure patients are provided consistent, high quality information.

The Ins and Outs of Radical Prostatectomy

The objective of this presentation is to educate patients, their partners and their loved ones to learn about radical prostatectomy as a treatment option for prostate cancer. We will discuss what the surgery entails and what to expect during the early recovery period. This will include consideration of possible complications of surgery and the need for sexual and bladder rehabilitation after surgery. Finally we will also discuss additional cancer therapies that may be offered after radical prostatectomy and how patients are followed to ensure they remain cancer free.

This presentation is focused on explaining how radiation therapy works and describes the two main methods of delivering prostate radiotherapy - brachytherapy and external beam radiotherapy.
